Procedures

Approach and departure procedures for helicopters have been modified so as to prevent as far as possible flying over residential areas, and so reduce the noise nuisance generated by this considerable activity.

Engine tests

Engine test of turboprop aircraft are carried out in the south sector of the airport, located further away from the most densely inhabited area so as to reduce noise nuisance.

These tests are forbidden on Mondays to Saturdays from 0700 to 0800, from 1200 to 1300, and from 1830 to 2000, as well as on Sundays and holidays.

Jet engine tests are carried out inside an acoustically insulated building called braking cell located in the military sector. Jets are not maintained at Sion Airport without restrictions, except in exceptional cases.

Operating restrictions

On Mondays to Saturdays from 0700 to 0800, from 1200 to 1300, and from 1830 to 2000, as well as on Sundays and holidays, the following flights are forbidden so as to reduce noise nuisance:

Aircraft belonging to class I, II and III, or combat aircraft with civilian registration can fly only on a specific authorization.

The use of Auxiliary Power Units (APU) is limited to 10 minutes after landing and 15 minutes before takeoff.
